Martin Takes Silver

ffTashkent Uzbekistan - Burnt Hills High School Graduate, Hannah Martin (29) from the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville turned in a terrific performance making it all the way to the final to win a 63kg silver medal at the Tashkent Grand Prix, October 7, 2017. This is her 4th Grand Prix medal in her career. Martin who came into the event ranked #36 in the world impressively posted wins over #14, Andreja Leski (Slovenia) and #26, Bursa Katipoglu (Turkey) before losing to world #3 Kathrin Unterwurzacher (Austria). This result jumps Martin 11 spots to #25 in her quest for the 2020 Olympic Games. Martin also represents the New York Athletic Club.

 

Martin Strikes Gold

ffSaarbrucken, Germany - NYAC's Hannah Martin (29) from the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville captured the 63kg title going 5-0 at the European Open in Saarbrucken over the weekend. This was the first ever Gold medal for Martin at a European event. Martin defeated Jen Schwille (Germany), Lubjana Piovesana (Great Britain), Kamila Badurova (Russia) & Diana Dzhigaros (Russia) to reach the final where Hannah toppled Germany's Agatha Schmidt when she scored with a throw early that lead into a pin and the win. "Hannah has been working harder than ever on both physical and mental preparation" JMJC Coach, Jason Morris said. "This result is a terrific confidence boost for her" 4x Olympian, Morris continued.

 

Martin & Turner Win Bronze

fPanama City, Panama - Burnt Hills High School Graduate, Hannah Martin (28) and Alex Turner (24) from the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville turned in the performances of their career to date as they both won bronze medals at the Pan Am Judo Championships, April 28, 2017. Martin only lost an overtime thriller to Yanka Pascolino (Brazil) in the semis. Martin then defeated former 2x Pan Am Champ, Maricet Espinosa (Cuba) in a crazy crowd pleasing bronze medal bout which included multiple scores with a lot of action. This result moved Hannah's 63kg world ranking all the way up to #27 from #42. Martin adds this to her bronze in 2013 in her fifth Pan Ams. Turner went 3-1 on the day in his maiden trip to the Pan Ams with his only loss coming in the semis losing to Eduardo Araujo (Mexico). Like Martin, Turner lost an overtime thriller. Turner jumps up a whopping 29 slots in 73kg on the world ranking list up to a career high #35. Both Martin and Turner also represent the New York Athletic Club. "This was a tremendous performance by the kids" Commented JMJC Coach, Jason Morris. "Alex and Hannah put in so much effort in the dojo and it's showing on the field" 4x Olympian, Morris continued. The JMJC has now won 16 total medals at the Pan Am Championships in it's 16 year history.

Hannah Martin Strikes Gold

f Buenos Aires, Argentina - Burnt Hills High School graduate, Hannah Martin (28) from the Jason Morris Judo Center swept through all opponents winning her matches by Ippon (full point) to take a gold medal at the Argentina Continental Open, March 11, 2017. Martin defeated Bombarda, Fiamma and Noella Ponce from Argentina to make the final where Hannah knocked off Karina Orellana (Chile) for the 63kg title which is her third overall medal in Argentina. She won a silver in both 2012 & 2013. This result bumps up Martin's world ranking 2 spots up to #38. Ari Berliner (18) also competed for the Jason Morris Judo Center and dropped his first 66kg bout to Minoru Tamashiro (Argentina) and was eliminated in his first major international event in the IJF tour. Martin also represents the New York Athletic Club (NYAC). Silver Lining for Martin

f Santiago, Chile - Burnt Hills High School graduate, Hannah Martin (28) from the Jason Morris Judo Center reached the final of a world judo tour event for the second straight week picking up a silver in the Chile Pan American Open, March 18, 2017. Martin who took a gold last week in Argentina lost a tight battle to 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Ketleyn Quagros (Brazil) in the final. This result boosts Martin's world ranking up two more spots to #36. The silver medal represents Hannah's 17th overall medal on the International Judo Federation's competition tour. Ari Berliner (18), also representing the Jason Morris Judo Center is on his maiden tour dropped his first bout to Lucas Ambrosio (Argentina) and was eliminated. "Two finals in two weeks concludes a very successful South American tour for Martin" said coach, Jason Morris. "Hannah continues to improve in all areas of her game which is a terrific sign so early in the quad" 4x Olympian, Morris continued. Martin also represents the New York Athletic Club.
